What to expect from therapy you have decided to find a therapist for your worry and anxiety. While you still feel a little nervous you have made the appointment and plan to attend.
You and I will meet for your first session, which will be a little uncomfortable for you, but it is completely normal.
Before your first session, you will fill out intake paperwork which will include information about what has brought you in. Having this complete before our first session will allow me to better understand your goals what you and what you hope to achieve.
On the day of your appointment, you will receive a link. Once you click this link you will be able to join the session.
We will review your paperwork and make sure you don’t have any questions. We will then talk about what is going on that has brought you to therapy. We will look at what goals you would like to achieve during our time together. This allows us to monitor progress so that we utilize our time efficiently and get the greatest benefit from therapy.
It's ok if you don’t exactly what your goals are. We will talk and explore some things that will be beneficial to focus on.
Often reducing anxiety is our first goal, but not always. I will always meet you where you are and we will discuss goals together as the overarching goal in therapy is that you feel heard and understood.
Having said that you may not always agree with my feedback but you will always be treated with dignity and respect. You are encouraged to speak up about what is not helpful. As a result, we can maximize your growth and healing in a way that is personalized just for you.
